Hippest places in AR to hang out this summer
This summer, those of us who live in Arkansas or neighboring states may be less likely to travel far distances for our summer fun due to higher gas costs and possible concerns of viral exposure while flying or utilizing public transportation methods such as buses or trains for long distances. Fortunately, there are many places in Arkansas to hang out this summer. Arkansas is known for being “the natural state,” so some of its hippest places to hang out may not look like the hippest places of other, more densely populated urban areas. Some of the hippest places to hang out in Arkansas this summer allow visitors to enjoy Arkansas’s scenic beauty and vibrant culture.
The hippest places in Arkansas to hang out this summer:
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art:
This spectacular museum, set in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas, features cutting-edge American art and exhibitions, inspiring outdoor installations, and stunning architecture, all for general admission that is free of cost. Exhibitions on display during summer months of 2022 include “The Dirty South: COntemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse” which is said to “spotlight the southern landscape through its musical heritage, spiritual complexity, and regional swagger.” Talk about hip!
Walmart Amp:
Also in Northwest Arkansas you will find the Walmart AMP (Arkansas Music Pavilion), which is the region’s premiere outdoor concert venue. This venue accommodates thousands of people and draws noteworthy artists from around the country. Musicians scheduled to perform during the summer months of 2022 include Jimmy Buffett, Steely Dan, REO Speedwagon, Styx, the Backstreet Boys, ZZ Top, Kenny Chesney, Incubus, Keith Urban, the Black Keys, the Goo Goo Dolls, and Matchbox Twenty.
Hot Springs National Park:
Further south in the state lies Hot Springs National Park, about an hour’s drive from Arkansas’s capital city, Little Rock. Hot Springs is a hidden gem where you can soak in natural hot spring water and enjoy some pampering, explore several lakes and trails, and enjoy some of the finest nationally award winning restaurants in the state of Arkansas. McClards Barbecue, Deluca’s Pizza, and the Colonial Pancake & Waffle House have all received national acclaim. These are just a few of the many options tucked away here.
The Unexpected:
The Unexpected Project is a series of public art created by artists from all around the world in Fort Smith, Arkansas. This is one of the coolest collections of public murals in the entire state if not the surrounding region. Since 2015, artists have been gathering to adorn the historic buildings of Fort Smith with breathtaking and surprising murals. These wacky, colorful displays will surprise and delight anyone as they explore the quaint and historic downtown area of Fort Smith.
